Street & Nye Mountains (January 25, 2025)
8:15am - Departed from Adirondack Loj parking lot (wore snowshoes)
9:05am (50 min elapsed) - Crossed Indian Pass Brook (firm ice all the way across)
10:45am (2.5 hours elapsed) - Reached Street/Nye junction (firmly packed trail all the way up)
11:15am (3 hours elapsed) - Summitted Street Mountain (best view to the south; Petra’s #2/46)
11:55am (3.75 hours elapsed) - Summitted Nye Mountain (Petra’s #3/46)
12:10pm (4 hours elapsed) - Reached Street/Nye junction (stopped to each lunch)
1:30pm (5.25 hours elapsed) - Crossed over Indian Pass Brook (ice still plenty firm)
2:20pm (~6.25 hours elapsed) - Reached Adirondack Loj parking lot
General Notes
Wore snowshoes the entire time and was glad we did, but saw plenty of other people successful in micro spikes (with 8+ inches of snow on the ground, NYS law says that snowshoes/skis should be worn)
We enjoyed mostly sunny conditions, which was very pleasant as long as we kept moving, and then the wind picked up on our descent
Most of the blowdown that slowed progress in late fall is either covered by snow or has been mitigated (thank you to the gentleman who was cutting away some blowdown on our descent!)
The water crossings provided no challenge and were very firm, though a little thinner at the end of the day
