Why choose OMG?
We’re fun and friendly. Our guides excel at introducing the whole family to Adirondack adventures—young kids and the dog included!
We’re trained and certified. We stay up-to-date on Wilderness First Aid training and climbing instructor courses, and have formal education in leadership and outdoor education.
We go above and beyond. Our guides have spent thousands of hours exploring the peaks and scouting climbs to help you be successful in your goals—whether it’s getting to the summit or climbing the next grade.
We do it all. In the summer we guide hiking and camping, rock climbing, trail running. In the winter, we switch to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, ice climbing, winter mountaineering, and backcountry skiing. Single or multi-day trips.
Don’t have a buddy? That’s okay! We do one-on-one private trips and drop-in group hikes, climbs, and clinics. Check our group schedule.

We’ve found half-day trips can feel rushed, leaving little time to relax, improve skills, or enjoy the summit. So, we price our full-day trips competitively with others’ half-days, giving you a stress-free adventure. Your trip can be whatever length it needs to be, without us watching the clock!
A deposit of 50% holds your date and is applied to your total balance with the final invoice.
Have more than 6 people? Let’s talk! We can usually create a custom trip to accommodate.

“Our winter hike with Onward Mountain Guides was outstanding. The guide was knowledgeable, encouraging, and incredibly well-prepared for the conditions, which made the whole experience feel both safe and adventurous. He set a comfortable pace, shared great insights about the terrain, and created a fun, positive atmosphere from start to finish. We couldn't have asked for a better team to lead us through the snow-covered trails. Highly recommend them for anyone looking to enjoy the mountains.”

“Jarrod is an excellent guide. Even before the hike, he gave me valuable advice on the necessary equipment and the route.
He regularly updated me on the weather forecast. On the day of the hike, he handled the navigation and was very proactive. He is also very patient. I highly recommend him.”

“Jarrod guided me to 42 of the 46 ADK peaks. I felt so comfortable with Jarrod's approach to hiking. He reviewed the trails with me before each hike, he provided a list of gear/attire for each weather condition, and always contacted me the morning of each hike. In addition to being an impeccable guide, he is a wonderful person. Along the trail, he pointed out the features of the hike and the history behind each peak. He spotted my hiking progress in precarious situations, especially on steep rock slabs and slides. If my gear failed during a hike, he would give me his gear. I plan to continue hiking in the Adirondacks with Jarrod. Many thanks!!!”

“Completely exceeded my expectations across the entire experience! This is your guide! Jarrod is a patient and kind person who is easy to communicate with and makes all the details a breeze. He walked me through every step, made sure l was clear on all expectations, and gave me everything I needed to be ready for our day. He took me on a 5-pitch multi-pitch route and included 3 rappels and some scrambling, to give me a little bit of everything for a proper adventure day in ADK! He is organized, meticulous about safety and gear, and makes sure his clients are clear and ready for anything they are about to tackle. Honestly, it couldn't have gone smoother, and I will no doubt be reaching out to Jarrod again, likely sooner than he expects! Ice climbing?! Thanks, Jarrod, you (quite literally) rock!”

“We spent 2 days out on the rocks with Jarrod and he put together a trip our group will talk about for a long time! From challenging ourselves rock climbing, to enjoying the beautiful sunset views as we rappel down the side of Roaring Brook falls, this trip was a great introduction into a new sport for all of us. Jarrod was more than willing to answer any questions we had, share his knowledge, and ensure we had a safe and memorable trip. Looking forward to our next excursion, thank you!!”

"Our two days of hiking and camping with Jarrod were fantastic. What a fun time. It was really a great experience for us and Jarrod could not have been more professional, friendly, nice, helpful, supportive, conscientious and fun. I would recommend him to novice and experienced hikers both without hesitation."

"Jarrod is an incredible guide! My dad and I have gone on 3 overnight trips with Jarrod to hike some of the Adirondack 46 high peaks, and we could not have found a more knowledgeable, kind, prepared and patient person to guide us. My boots broke on our first 3 day, 2 night trip and Jarrod had not one, but 3 or 4 different hacks to help get me back to the trailhead with my shoes in tact, and a smile to help ease my anxiety. If you are looking for an individual or group led hike or climb, look no further, and while he still has availability (wish we could keep him a secret honestly). :) Onward Mountain Guides gets 11 stars from me."

“We had two great experiences with OMG. First, we did a half day climb and had a great day. Our son who is 11 has a small bit of climbing experience enjoyed the more challenging routes while my wife and I had a great time on the more beginner routes up. The day was great and we couldn't have been happier with Jarrod's choice for where to go and his climbing expertise. We had such a great time that we asked Jarrod about an extended day hike up Gothics which we were slightly apprehensive about given the length of the day and some more technical hiking challenges. Jarrod was great at keeping us motivated and helping us all the way to the top. We had a great time and hopefully we make it back to do more high peaks next year!”

“Jarrod guided my daughter and I up Mt. Redfield and Cliff Mt. We hiked in 6 miles on Day 1, then did both peaks the next day. We stayed over a second night and then hiked out in the morning. We could not have asked for a better more helpful person to guide us. Jarrod was resourceful, friendly, encouraging, knowledgeable and simply made the experience a memorable one. Both my daughter's boots came apart during the trip, one near the peak of Cliff and Jarrod never flinched. He simply reached into his supplies and came up with various solutions until one actually worked.
We cannot say enough good things about him, though we are planning two more hikes this summer with him, so that alone should sum up our feelings!!”

“I had an incredible time with Jarrod from Onward Mountain Guides and would highly recommend him and his company.
I reached out to him to ask for help to train for a challenging hiking trip to South America. He identified 3 day hike routes with elevation to help me train and provided a ton of information and a detailed packing list before I arrived. He was a great communicator before the trip, answering any question I had and responding very quickly. He was also very flexible with changes to the group numbers. His invoicing was prompt, online, transparent, and easy.
Overall, Jarrod was incredibly organized, supportive, knowledgeable, patient, and communicative. I honestly had a blast with Jarrod, and it won't be my last time hiking with him!”— Shannon S.

“Jarrod is an excellent guide that I would heartily recommend. From billing, to waivers to his sharing of post-trip pictures and video, it is clear Jarrod takes his business very seriously and is exceedingly professional about it.
He is very knowledgeable and helpful. Not just about the area of the Adirondacks that he was guiding me through. But about equipment and best practices. He seemed to know my equipment better than I did and was very helpful with setup and tear-down.”

“It’s worth every penny to feel safe and to learn what I’m doing.
Fixed my snowshoe when it opened up. Had hand warmers readily available when my hands wouldn’t warm up. Jarrod brought hot tea for me at the summit and also an extra puffy coat for me to wear while we had a quick lunch. Now that’s full service!”

“Jarrod was a great teacher and motivator during our rock climbing trip. He guided my 4 year old daughter up the side of the cliff with great ease. Every time she was stuck or unsure of herself he was right by her side to offer comforting words of motivation. Seeing the smile on her face when she reached the top was amazing. She hasn’t stopped talking about her accomplishment since! In her words she is now an experienced climber and cant wait for her next adventure. Will definitely be booking another trip with Jarrod in the future.”

“I’ve always wanted to rock climb, but had no clue where to start. Jarrod gave us several options that were perfect for our family. My 7 year old son has Spina Bifida and hiking and rock climbing never seemed like an option for our family. The care he took with him was amazing. He carried our son on his back through trails and even up one of the cliffs. Our trip would not have been possible without the expertise and motivation of Jarrod. Anyone looking to make their trip to the Adirondacks the best possible needs to contact Jarrod!”

“I never thought hiking or rock climbing would be something I would enjoy doing. One trip with Jarrod has changed everything. His knowledge and experience made this trip both educational and fun. Being a 300+lb man I was very nervous to be leaving the ground, but the constant motivation from Jarrod pushed me outside my comfort zone and to the top! I am already planning my next trip!”
— Aaron F.

“I have hiked with Jarrod five times. He communicates well. He is always prepared. He values feedback and safety. On this last hike, I only had one trekking pole. Jarrod let me use his pole for a river crossing (thus, I had two poles for greater stability). He always has spotted me when the trail gets hazardous. Jarrod knows the trails, nature, and the history of the mountains. Every hike with Jarrod has been wonderful.”
