Group Courses

We provide drop-in group courses, such as group hikes, group climbing clinics, and craggin’ days. They’re a great way to get instruction on specific skills, or tick off peaks with other hikers.
Check our schedule up upcoming events below.

  • We pick a peak and climb it! We rotate through many of the High Peaks to help aspiring 46ers work through their tick list. These courses are also great for folks looking for camaraderie and new friends to explore the High Peaks. Spots are limited!

  • Some of the mountain ranges are difficult to bag all in one day. For those, we offer group overnight backpacking courses. We’ll establish a campsite and attempt our peaks from there. Also great for hikers looking to hone their camping skills.

Possible trips: Seward Range, Great Range, Dix Range.

  • Kick back and climb! We rotate through crags near Keene, Lake Placid, Wilmington, and Saranac Lake, so you might discover a new favorite place to climb! It’s also a prime opportunity to meet some new climbing partners. But most of all, it’s just a great excuse to get out and climb.

Don’t have your own gear? No problem! We can supplement rock shoes, harness, helmet, rope, and belay device for those who need them.

  • You’re ready to take your climbing from the plastic holds to the real rock, but you’re not so sure about all that anchor business, or even exactly what gear you’ll need to climb outdoors safely. That’s where we come in! During this one-day course, you’ll learn skills that will last your climbing career like evaluating a crag, how to set up a top rope, rappelling, climbing movement, and cleaning anchors.

  • Learning to lead climb opens up a whole new world of rock climbing. Some routes can only be done from the group up, but it can be scary and dangerous to take the sharp end. During this one-day course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of placing traditional gear (cams and stoppers) to protect your ascent. You’ll also gain skills as a belayer, learning how you play an active role in the climber’s safety, even from the ground. You’ll have the opportunity to do mock leads while on top rope, and get feedback from your guide on your gear placements. We’ll also cover how to clean the routes to get all your gear back at the end of the day.

We’re adding new courses and dates they’re offered all the time, so check back often! Or sign up for our email list below to always be in the know.

Reservation Policy

The Request a Guide form indicates your interest in booking a trip with us and gives us enough info to start building a trip plan, but it doesn’t guarantee a spot will be available. We’ll get back to you as promptly as we can to let you know if your trip on your preferred date is available.

After your itinerary has been set, Onward Mountain Guides will send an invoice for payment. The deposit is due upon receipt of the invoice, and payment of the remaining balance is due 7 days ahead of the start of your trip.

Trip requests are not considered booked, and the dates are not reserved for you, until the deposit has been paid.

Cancelation Policy

If a trip is canceled, at the guide’s discretion, due to weather or unfavorable conditions, a full refund will be issued.

If you cancel, for any reason, a refund or credit will be issued according to the following conditions:

  • Cancelations made 8 or more days out from the start of the trip will receive a full refund, including the deposit.

  • Cancelations made within 7 days of the start of the trip will forfeit the deposit.

I’ve done my best to make this respectful and fair. When you book your trip, I commit to it for my schedule, spend time preparing, and count on that income. Last-minute changes are disruptive, and I’m unlikely to be able to rebook your day with someone else.
